Amaryllis Cold Hardiness
While the bold beauties that adorn our interiors for the holidays are often viewed as delicate houseplants, their versatility in reality is quite the opposite.
Hybrid Amaryllis (Hippeastrum) are the descendants of South American species that often hail from rugged & inhospitable terrains. Accustom to stark growing conditions, hybrid vigor & polyploidy in modern hybrids further expands their garden versatility. While north Georgia winters are often considered mild, our field grown Amaryllis have weathered temperatures down to 5 degrees Fahrenheit (USDA Zone 7b).
Additionally, newer hybrids are being grown and bred specifically for outdoor applications. Amaryllis ‘Cleopatra’ is one such variety. Field grown in the Netherlands year round, this charming “Hummingbird Class” selection features bold flowers of golden yellow and red. A customer favorite, we are proud to offer it again this year! 🌸
